Micki Kolberg
AHE | e-RYT 200
Educator · Wellness Mentor · Former Professional Ballet Dancer
Some people find their purpose. Micki has been living hers for over two and a half decades — she just keeps finding new ways to express it.
Micki began her formal training at the Ithaca Ballet in Ithaca, New York in the 1990s — her primary artistic home through her formative years. Her dedication and talent led to an invitation to train year-round at the prestigious Kirov Academy of Ballet in Washington, DC, from which she graduated in 2002.
Her performing career took her where the work was — as it does for every working dancer who loves the art enough to follow it — from a trainee position with Ballet Austin, to her first paid position with Louisville Ballet, to dancing with Ballet Black in London, UK and Europe's first Black and Asian professional neoclassical ballet company. She also guested with Ballet Russes in Swansea, Wales, and performed on stages in Hawaii, Boston, and beyond — interpreting beloved classical works including Swan Lake, The Sleeping Beauty, The Nutcracker, Les Sylphides, and La Bayadère, alongside choreography by George Balanchine, Val Caniparoli, Antony Tudor, Septime Webre, and others.
But even at the height of her performing career, it was never just about the dancing.
It was the quiet conversations in the studio. The backstage talks. The honest moments with young people figuring out who they were — and needing someone to actually see them.
From the stage to the studio to the classroom, that thread never broke.
After her performing career, Micki channeled her artistry and vision into education. At Sacred Hearts Academy in Honolulu — an all-girls private academic school — she created and developed a ballet program from the ground up, including an annual all-girls Nutcracker production that established a performance tradition still continuing at the school today. She remained there for eight years.
From Sacred Hearts, Micki joined Ballet Hawaii — first as a teacher and guest dancer, then growing into the role of School Director, over a period of eleven years. In that capacity she updated the school's syllabus and programming, shaping the artistic development of hundreds of young dancers and becoming a cornerstone of Hawaii's dance education community. Beyond the studio, she actively supported and participated in Ballet Hawaii's community outreach — contributing to events and collaborations with arts organizations, schools, the Four Seasons, and Shriners Children's Hospital, deepening the company's presence and relationships across Honolulu.
Her broader teaching career has taken her across the country — guest teaching ballet at schools in Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Texas, New York, and Hawaii, working at Gateway Ballet in South Boston, and bringing arts access to underserved youth through the Boston City Lights Performing Arts program.
As a certified Gyrotonic® trainer — teaching at The Movement Center of Boston and Motion Arts — Micki brought an embodied, whole-body approach to movement that informed everything she taught, in every studio she entered.
Alongside her work in dance, Micki deepened her studies in the healing arts.
She became a certified Ayurvedic Health Educator through the California College of Ayurveda, an Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher (e-RYT 200), and a dedicated student of Eastern medicine traditions, herbalism and flower essences, astrology, Human Design, and positive psychology. Not as separate pursuits — as pieces of the same question she'd always been asking:
What does a person actually need to grow into themselves?
The answer became The Elemental Teen.
Drawing from Ayurveda, astrology, yoga, and ancient elemental wisdom, Micki created a framework that translates the complexity of who you are into something you can actually feel and understand — through Fire, Earth, Air, and Water.
Not a personality test. Not a diagnosis. A language. One that helps young people recognize themselves — maybe for the first time.
She listens. She reflects. She challenges gently. She offers language.
And after nearly twenty years of working alongside teenagers through some of their most defining moments — she knows that the young people who struggle most aren't struggling, because something is wrong with them. They're struggling because nobody gave them the words.
Micki gives them the words.
